Southern Missouri School of Ministry_________

Recent modifications in the credentialing requirements for new ministers brought changes in the Berean School of the Bible program offered through Global University. The new Berean courses require students to have local mentors and practical ministry experience.

We want to assist ministers with practical training and education. The Southern Missouri School of Ministry desires to train a new generation of ministers using the new Berean curriculum.

Stan Welch, District Secretary/Treasurer and Curt Rozean, District Christian Education Director, wanted to build a program of study for all ministers and candidates in the Southern Missouri District.

The Southern Missouri School of Ministry is not only for those seeking credentials. It is for anyone who wants to improve their understanding of God’s Word and deepen their knowledge of Christ.

How it Works

Work is a key concept at the Southern Missouri School of Ministry. While work can be fun, the study and preparation for ministry candidates and those seeking upgrade of credentials is a serious matter. However, the program is designed to be fun and challenging.

The concept of The School involves three aspects: weekly work, focus groups, and class day. Three courses are offered each month (one for each ministerial credential level).

  1. The weekly work is an average of 3 1/2 hours where the student is involved in prayer, Bible study, and discussion with a focus group.
  2. The focus group schedule involves prayer and testimonies with discussion, interactive questions, and Unit Progress Evaluations. In these groups, students meet in clusters of 2 to 10 for group study.  If it is not possible for you to meet with a focus group, then you may meet with another person of your choice to discuss the IST.
  3. Students come together on one monthly Class Day. Class Day, the final portion of the program, is held at the District Office. Interaction and fellowship are a natural outflow of this exciting day. Students participate in four hours of classroom interaction and discussion. (Before arriving for Class Day, students are required to work through the text book, student packet, complete the self tests and Unit progress evaluations) When the course is completed, they will have invested several hours of study and preparation time in each course. Once the final exam is completed, a celebration ensues as the students are one course closer to reaching their goal for their credential level.

Instructors (facilitators) become natural mentors as they build relationships and share experiences with students. Instructors include the Southern Missouri District Presbytery Board. They will be available to provide accountability and guidance for each  student.

Finances

Students pay $70 for each course which includes: tuition, Independent Study Text, Student Packet, coffee and donuts, lunch, facilitator, & student advisor.

There is a one time $40 fee for enrollment into the Berean School of the Bible. All savings are passed along to the student while the District absorbs the direct cost of the program.

Scholarships

The District encourages churches to offer Work-Study Scholarships where students will work in specific areas of the church in exchange for tuition.

Family Plans allow members of the same family to study together. The first family member pays full tuition, additional family members may study with about a 15% discount. See registration form for exact costs to family members.

What does the future hold? With increasing enrollment in The Southern Missouri School of Ministry, hundreds of ministers can be trained and encouraged to minister to thousands.
